Our team was thrilled to host this year’s Summer Camp at Chatman’s Christian Academy!
Each day the children had fun participating in therapeutic activities, games, outdoor fun, arts & crafts, reading activities, and more!
Of course, we were sure to keep social distancing a priority for the health and safety of all participants.
“I saw a serious need for kids to be able to socialize and get out of the house. Due to COV-ID 19 some of the kids hadn’t been out since March” explains our President and Clinical Director, Kathy Manns.
We loved helping the children relax, concentrate and learn breathing techniques in our yoga session. Yoga can greatly improve a child’s ability to center, while also increasing balance and flexibility.
The camp provided a perfect opportunity for immediate interventions for the children. When the children became frustrated, upset, or needed some strategies for a certain activity, our team of therapists were there to guide them one on one immediately.
Another fun activity at our summer camp was arts and crafts! Creating art breaks down barriers that often exist in face-to-face communication. While children focus on their artwork they feel free to share their feelings. Art expression is an opportunity for success and achievement, which often builds confidence and self-esteem.
Our entire team agrees that the most fulfilling part of our camp was to see the kids open up and try new experiences. Some children were so nervous about trying anything new and would sit out of activities when they first arrived. As the week progressed, however, they tried more and more experiences. It was incredible to watch them venture into new activities, learning new skills, and meeting new friends each day! We especially loved seeing their faces when they were successful!
We loved helping the children achieve goals, conquer fears, build confidence and self-esteem. Participating in the Summer Camp activities with the other children encourages an enthusiasm for life while learning social and emotional skills that will last a lifetime! Our second summer camp session will be from July 13 to16th. During this week, we’ll be working with the attendees on developing their attention skills and staying focused!
